Following the unexpected passing of US Senator Lindsey Graham due to an aortic tear, his sister, Darline Graham Nordone, has been appointed as his interim successor. South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster announced her appointment on Monday, expressing confidence in her ability to carry on her brother's work in the Senate.
Governor McMaster introduced Nordone as Graham's "darling little sister," tasked with completing his term. "It is such an honor. Lindsey has always been there for me and now I will be there for him," Nordone stated during the announcement.

Nordone's appointment comes with support from key officials, including former President Donald Trump, who advocated for her as a tribute to her brother. Lindsey Graham, who remained unmarried and childless, was very close to Nordone, having legally adopted her after their parents' deaths.

Graham's death, attributed to an "aortic dissection" from cardiovascular disease, occurred at age 71. He had been seeking re-election with the Republican Party's nomination. Several Republicans have already announced their intentions to contest his seat.

Nordone, who was 13 when their parents passed away, was raised by Graham, who was 22 at the time. She has maintained a close relationship with her brother throughout his legal and political career.
